Lisbon, Portugal—UPF-Portugal representatives explained about the federation’s achievements and core values in a visit to a leader of a parliamentary committee.
Invited by the Parliamentary Group of the Social Democratic Party (one of the two largest parties in Portugal), a delegation consisting of the UPF Board, along with our close friend and Ambassador for Peace Professor Alberto Araújo, was received by the coordinator of the Committee on Foreign Relations and Portuguese Communities, MP António Maló de Abreu, on November 19, 2019.
The UPF national president briefly introduced the work of UPF and its core values and goals and took the opportunity to personally deliver to MP Maló a letter of invitation and a program to attend the UPF World Summit in Korea in February 2020.
The president offered the founder's autobiography, as well as three photo brochures about international, European and national events of UPF, as a way of introducing the founders’ life, vision and ongoing world projects.
Next the UPF Board secretary gave a brief report about the Africa Summit that was held in São Tomé and Príncipe in September 2019 and the resultant UPF work. She focused on the UPF character education program, pointing out our goal of expanding this model to other Lusophone nations such as Angola, Cabo Verde, and Guinea-Bissau and requesting the support of Portugal’s government.
Professor Alberto Araújo spoke briefly about the cooperation since 2013 between his association, Lusophone Diaspora Platform (PISCIDIL), and UPF and about his goal of training peace leaders in all Lusophone countries, so that both organizations wish to count on cooperation with this foreign affairs committee.
Finally, MP António Maló expressed his deepest appreciation for UPF's guiding principles and great work for world peace and stated that he is willing to work cooperatively in the near future on these common values to achieve universal peace, as this is also one of the main goals and even the main motto of his party.
