Copenhagen, Denmark—UPF representatives met with leaders of the Albanian faith community to promote the "Peace Road"project.
The 1,500-member Albanian community is led by Imam Basri Kurtis, a UPF Ambassador for Peace. He is well respected in Denmark for his active interfaith work. Imam Kurtis welcomed the UPF representatives to the Albanian Mosque and explained about their work in the mosque and in the Danish society as well as their views on peace.
In the meeting on August 15, 2021, UPF-Denmark Secretary General Karsten Nielsen introduced UPF’s visionary "Peace Road" initiative. He said the proposed system of international highways, bridges and tunnels would help to create an interdependent, interconnected and harmonious world, eventually realizing world peace and uniting all people as one global family under God.
Mr. Nielsen showed a video about the background of Peace Road and about the many UPF events and webinars during the last couple of years.
UPF senior advisor Nobuhiro Igarashi reported on UPF’s Southeast Europe Summit which was held in Tirana, Albania, in 2019. He also spoke about the Albanian Peace Embassy, now under construction, which is scheduled to open in Tirana in the autumn of 2021, and showed a video about "Peace Road" activities in the Balkan region.
The community leaders listened attentively and expressed their admiration for and support for these peace initiatives. They sincerely thanked UPF for the meeting and hoped that more members of their community could be introduced to UPF peace initiatives in the future. They said they desired to develop a closer cooperation with UPF.
We hope to find more partners among faith communities and youth groups in Denmark to develop "Peace Road" events.
