Nuremberg ‘Peace Road’ Visits Historic Sites

Nuremberg, Germany—A group of 26 UPF supporters held a “Peace Road” walk around this historic city.
The group, many of whom wore “Peace Road” T-shirts and waved “Peace Road” flags, gave leaflets to passers-by, explaining how the initiative originated in 1981, when UPF founder Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon proposed an International Peace Highway that would connect the peoples of the world.
Starting at the UPF center, the walk on October 30, 2021, passed through an important recreational area with dozens of ponds and rich forestation. The participants stopped at display boards along the way to read about the history of the centuries-old city.
Charles IV, who was the Holy Roman Emperor from 1355 to 1378, had a great liking for Nuremberg. In 1356 he issued the Golden Bull, which instructed that every emperor was to hold the first Imperial Diet of his reign in Nuremberg.
From the 1920s to the 1940s, the Nazi Party chose Nuremberg as the site of its annual gatherings, and started to build enormous structures as symbols of its power, including the Nazi Party rally grounds.
Visiting the rally grounds, the “Peace Road” participants speculated how the site might have been used for a higher purpose, for example, an assembly of the world’s religions.
A further “Peace Road” event is planned for 2022.
