Manila, Philippines - Students in Manila worked together to clean a historic wall at Balluarte de San Andres in Intramuros, Manila.
The World Collegiate Association for the Research of Principle together with the City Government of Manila and Philippine Society of National Service Training Program (NSTP) Educators and Implementers Inc. conducted the Adopt-a-Wall Program at Ballauarte de San Andres, Intramuros, Manila, on December 6, with the theme “Realizing One Global Family through Spreading the Culture of Service.”
This activity aimed to preserve the sanctity of the historical walls in Intramuros, attended by NSTP students from the College of Engineering and College of Architecture both from Technological University of the Philippines.
It started with the opening program at 6:00 am held in Baywalk, Roxas Boulevard, together with the participation of different colleges and universities in the Manila Coastal Clean up, another activity of the Global Peace Festival.
At the program, Ms. Akiko Ikeno, a Youth Ambassador for Peace from New York, inspired the students to do the activity not just for the sake of cleaning the area but also to clean the hearts of every participants.
Mr. Fernando de Lara, an NSTP teacher, then guided the students to the cleaning area. He divided them into 36 groups with 15-16 members each group and assigned them to their respective cleaning areas of responsibilities.
"The students at the Technical University of the Philippines not only focus on developing technologies but we are also longing for peace,” said Ms. Danela Spanish, a civil engineering student, adding, “Through this activity we realized that everything is not always for fun, but at least we developed teamwork and unity is the foundation for peace."
