Address to World Summit

Note: World leaders were invited to World Summit 2022 but due to air travel restrictions, participated by submitting a video message. The following text is a transcription of the recording.
I feel greatly honored for being invited to give one of the keynote remarks during the World Peace Summit 2022. Thank you for convening such an important meeting.
My special appreciation goes to the UPF Founder and Host, Dr. Hak Ja Kan Moon. I would also like to appreciate the Co-Chairs, His Excellency Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and His Excellency Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary General of the United Nations.
I am extremely impressed with the UPF activities in Malawi, Africa and the whole world in general especially when there are threats on world peace, be it from the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, poverty and conflict, just to mention a few.
I have tracked the UPF activities in Malawi and I have learned a lot through interaction with the leadership. Malawi has leaders at parliament, religious, traditional leadership, women, youth and family levels who form key membership and take part in UPF and Family Federation for World Peace activities. These leaders have shown and demonstrated great commitment by operating in their own homes, since there is no Peace House, Peace Embassy or physical structure in Malawi. However, they have not allowed these challenges to stand in their way in their pursuit for world peace.
Peace is an important part of a healthy world. The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that we are all one and that we cannot do away with common challenges in a divided world. Just like we are jointly fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, we need a cooperative community investing and working towards peace in order to deal with the common challenges that are here today and even those that may come.
In the words of the author James O’Dea, “In a time [like this] of unprecedented challenge we must heal the wounds of the past, engage fully in the transformation of present conditions, and create a future of unparalleled dignity and beauty for all beings and for all life on Earth.”
