A. Dassoundo: Address to World Summit 2022, Session VIII

Address to World Summit
February 11-13, 2022

I am called upon to speak in this Summit to congratulate Dr. Moon for the initiative she has taken to launch this debate on the issue of the peaceful reunification of the Korean peninsula.

I would like to say from the outset that this subject is of interest to the parliamentarians of Benin and, at the highest level, to His Excellency Patrice Talon, Head of State. The issue of peace is a key issue as the world is today disturbed and troubled by many conflicts. At the moment we are facing a conflict in the making between the United States and the European world, and Russia over border issues. You have started to hear the sound of the boot around Ukraine. We believe that this is going to be another conflict if we do not do something for peace.

On the issue of the Korean peninsula, it is a conflict that has been going on for more than 70 years. I think that today the world has moved on and we have to make sure that peace comes to the peninsula and that we come together for peace on the Korean peninsula.

As a parliamentarian, I would like to start by appealing to the parliaments of our countries. Let the debates take place in the national and regional parliaments, so that in the end we can build a bridge between our parliamentary institutions and the Korean peninsula.

I would like to say that the Association of Parliamentarians for Peace and Reunification of the Korean Peninsula is being established so that together we can do the work between South Korea and North Korea, between the other parties involved in the debate, namely the United States, China and other stakeholders.

I would like to express my sincere hope that this framework will be firmly implemented so that we can work intensively for the achievement of peace and reunification.

I would like to thank and congratulate the personal involvement of the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Hun Sen, as well as the former Secretary General of the United Nations, H.E. Ban Ki-moon, who spared no effort to do the work of reunification and help us move forward.

We are grateful to Mother Moon who has spared no effort to get us to where we are. We believe that if the parliamentarians get together, we can absolutely achieve the peaceful reunification of the Korean peninsula in a very short time.

I thank you.
