O. Tserendash: Address to Peace Summit 2023, Session III-A

Address to Peace Summit 2023
May 2-5, 2023

Dear Mrs. Moon, ladies and gentlemen, I would like to express my deep gratitude for inviting me to participate in this high-level conference on world peace and unity, which has a great international reputation.

With the energy situation, the economic crisis, the coronavirus epidemic—the world has overcome the restrictions—and regional wars, it’s a time of unrest where armed conflicts are rampant. Further conflicts and struggles between ethnic groups have become regional and international in nature, involving many countries beyond one country, resulting in the loss of thousands of lives, the destruction of entire cities and irreparable damage estimated at hundreds of billions of dollars. This instability is likely to occur not only in Europe, but also in Asia and Africa and other areas, and the public should pay attention.

Let us join hands and actively fight for peace. Let the message of peace spread throughout the world. Let’s call on the countries and citizens of the world to be active and contribute to peace.

It is recommended that the relations between China and Taiwan be eased as much as possible, that peace agreements without the participation of the big powers are made, and the big powers are warned not to take part in handholding as much as possible. We will contribute to the peaceful solutions of Sudan in Africa, Yemen and Syria in the Middle East, and organize direct meetings between the parties. The whole world should demand an immediate end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and have them sit down at the table to negotiate a peace agreement. Let’s demand that Russia withdraw its troops from the occupied territories such as Donbas and Luhansk and make it a demilitarized zone, and that the United States and European countries stop NATO’s action of supplying their modern weapons to Ukraine and further inciting the war in which the Slavic people are killing each other.

Also, the United Nations needs to make a significant contribution to the establishment of peace and the removal of the threat of war by strongly accelerating its activities. Also, we should activate the international religious and civil society’s peaceful efforts in every way. A peace talk led by Mrs. Moon from this Supreme Assembly of ours, sending delegations to negotiate with Moscow and Kiev, and to Brussels to stop the wars in the world, will improve the lives of more and more people. Let’s stop the destruction of cities and villages.

Secondly, let all countries organize a general peace campaign against the pursuit of military weapons, preparations for war, and joining military alliances and invest instead in arrangements that will bring peace. Let’s spend money on advertising. Let’s spend money to save all countries from the threat of global economic crisis, unemployment, poverty and hunger by reducing their armaments by 5 to 10%. The United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council can make this decision in this regard.

Third, the realm of democracy can be considered as a protection of human rights, peaceful living in a safe and healthy environment and provision of eco products.

The countries of the world do not always provide human rights and freedoms. Not only Russia, China and North Korea can be mentioned here. Human rights violations are common in democratic countries as well. For example, Mongolia has 36 political parties, but the two largest groups, the People’s Party and the Democratic Party, have a strict membership during the communist system.

Zevhen Yeer’s political party is using election budget monies to distribute welfare or other forms to its members and to buy voters’ votes. But on top of that, the oligarchy of the MP and DP parties, together with outsiders, are dividing the underground resources and plundering the people’s livelihood, and human rights are being violated at every step. More than 70% of the people in a country which, with only 3 million people, is rich in gold, copper, coal, coke and oil, are below the middle level of poverty. The average monthly salary is 1 million Mongolian tughriks, or about $300. Unfortunately, the authorities are seriously violating human rights by arresting and imprisoning activists who have criticized them for various reasons.

As a lawyer who has been working in the field of human rights for more than 30 years, I consider it my duty to convey this information to international organizations and the public.

Wishing every success at this World Peace Summit. We will actively participate in future activities. Thank you very much.
