C. Kimlong: Address to Peace Summit 2023, Session V

Address to Peace Summit 2023
May 2-5, 2023

It is my pleasure and honor to represent the Asian Vision Institute. I would like to share with you one point. We had the great honor and pleasure to host the Asia Pacific Secretariat of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF)’s Think Tank 2022 in Cambodia since 2022. Since the adoption and launch of Think Tank 2022, we have come together here with the hope and belief that the world will continue to be more prosperous. How we can achieve a prosperous world is through peace partnerships and with the people, by the people and for the people. With that, I have some questions, although not specifically for Dr. Michael Pillsbury, but for everyone present. What is next for us? What is the pathway for us to achieve a prosperous, peaceful world?

Along that line, I would like to share one point about what we have been doing at the institute. In support of Think Tank 2022, we should leverage what we have available at hand, that is, further cooperation among think tanks across the world, those in the Think Tank 2022 network under the support of UPF in cooperation with all the think tanks here.

In 2019, I joined UPF’s leadership conference in Seoul for the very first time. During that time, I participated in the academic seminar and suggested one point: the establishment of a peace library. Now, linking to that, may I propose a Think Tank 2022 peace library. And in connection with that, I think we need to promote our peace research, and then get the gist of every research publication, every paper. The third point is to do it a little bit more scientifically by innovating peace policy.

Second, next month the Asian Vision Institute will launch our Mekong Peace Boat, inviting youth from South Asia and East Asia, with the goal to build a network of youth who are going to be future leaders in their field, whether it is in business, government, politics, academia or the private sector. We are doing this to develop leadership, build an ecosystem of peace and then discuss a number of issues, challenges.

May I pose one brief question:  What can we do together as citizens of the world to reduce tensions between major powers in the world, and how can we prevent dangerous propaganda?
