Address to Peace Summit 2023

It is my pleasure to share a few words at the outset of this important session organized by the UPF’s IAAP, together with the Hyojeong Academic Foundation, as part of Peace Summit 2023.
Thank you for joining us for this Summit which focuses on addressing the critical challenges of our time, and exploring the ways forward to peace. A major objective of UPF at this time is to promote great regional and inter-regional cooperation.
The Summit series is one of the flagship programs of the Universal Peace Federation and, over many years, it has been able to bring together leaders from across all sectors of society, guided by ideals of interdependence, mutual prosperity, and universal values.
The Summit program has sessions devoted to the issues faced by diverse regions of the world: Asia, Africa, Latin America, North America, Europe and the Middle East.
Furthermore, we have featured each of the UPF’s Associations, including the ISCP, the IAPP, the IAPD, IMAP, IAED, and IAAP. This multi-sectoral approach to peace is collaborative and multi-sectoral. That is why, during the Summit, you will meet not only current and former heads of state, but also parliamentarians, religious leaders, academicians, women leaders, youth, media professionals and business leaders. We need all sectors to build a world of peace.
At our Opening Plenary we heard directly from our Founder, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon. She also inaugurated the Elders Roundtable.
At the 6th Forum of Think Tank 2022, we listened to Dr. Michael Pillsbury, as he led a discussion of the ways in which China’s rise to an unprecedented level of power and influence, impacts East Asia and the world.
We are indeed facing great challenges to global peace and stability, and I understand we will be discussing these challenges during our deliberations for the IAAP session. At the same time, it is very encouraging to observe that our discussions will also include consideration of the development of a peace movement that will impact all regions of the world, moving us toward peace and greater stability.
