and Spouse of the Permanent Representative of Ghana
Africa Day Celebration
New York, USA, May 23, 2014
We, the spouses of the African Ambassadors to the United Nations, wish to express sincere gratitude for the opportunity to host, in conjunction with African Union and Universal Peace Federation, so many of you today to celebrate Africa.
Africa, our beloved continent has been, and continues to be described in various ways: the dark continent, the lost continent, the emerging continent and most recently, the continent of this century.
Indeed, despite lingering challenges, Africa is making remarkable progress. Perseverance and dedication will eventually see Africa blossom, and take its rightful place in the comity of nations.
The African Spouses Group lends its full support to the African Ambassadors to the United Nations in their relentless efforts in championing the cause of Africa. More grease to your elbows. Someday, Africa will overcome.
I would like to thank my sisters, members of the Spouses Group for their dedication and commitment to Africa.
Our appreciation also goes to the African Union and the Ambassadors Group for the opportunity given us to be part of the celebration.
Universal Peace Federation, our sincerest appreciation and gratitude goes to you for sponsoring our activities. Your support has been instrumental to the success of this cheerful evening.
I cannot leave out the staff from the residences and missions for their immense support. Our shopping, cooking, delivering and the numerous activities we the spouses undertake, to the extent that sometimes we appear to get busier than the Ambassadors.
We thank the performers, who will take us through the sounds and dance of Africa, and the beautiful ushers for their participation.
The theme this year, Agriculture and Food Security, I leave it to our husbands to handle at the UN.
Finally, we thank you all for your presence.
