Your Excellencies, Esteemed leaders from more than 70 nations, including fields of government, diplomacy, religion, civil society and academia,
On behalf of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, I extend to you my warmest greetings and wholehearted encouragement for the important work you have undertaken at the World Summit 2014, sponsored by the Universal Peace Federation.
I regret that I cannot be with you at this time due to previous commitments and the many preparations related to the Alliance of Civilizations 6th Global Forum being convened later this month, dedicated to the theme of "Unity in Diversity: Celebrating Diversity for Common and Shared Values."
Following on the success of five consecutive Forums in Spain, Turkey, Brazil, Qatar and Austria, the 6th Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations will take place in Bali. The Forum will highlight strategic and yet practical measures that generate and sustain common values and a shared sense of responsibility among all stakeholders, partners and constituencies toward the realization of the mandate and objectives of the Alliance of Civilizations initiative.
We will address a variety of topics, including the need for interreligious and intercultural dialogue; the role of women in fostering understanding among cultures; youth participation in peace building; harnessing the positive power of social media; and fostering understanding through the power of sports, arts, music and entertainment.
The UN Alliance of Civilizations shares many of the same values as the Universal Peace Federation and we are happy to count you among our friends and stakeholders in our search for solutions to global problems. At this year's Global Forum we will sign a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize our relationship as one of friendship and common cause.
I believe the work you are doing through the World Summit, with its focus on peace and sustainable development, is of great importance. Please know that the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations stands with you, and I look forward to future collaboration. I recognize that some portion of your program will include a tribute to UPF's Founder, Dr. Moon, who passed away two years ago. Our thoughts and prayers are with Madame Moon and the entire family. Once again, congratulations and best wishes for a successful conference.
