C. Date: Address to World Summit 2020 Opening Banquet

Address to World Summit 2020, Seoul, Korea, February 3-8, 2020

I sincerely congratulate the World Summit, which will be held today with more than 6,000 participants from all levels of the world, including world leaders and government leaders. I am Chuichi Date, and I was the speaker of the House of Councillors in the Japanese Diet until August 2019.

It is a great honor to be greeting you at the opening banquet of this wonderful World Summit Conference.

The World Summit was proposed by Rev. Sun Myung Moon and his wife, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon. They have been committed to achieving world peace over their lifetimes. In particular, this year marks the 100th anniversary of Reverend Moon’s and the 77th anniversary of Dr. Han's birth. They have promoted the thought of “Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity, and Universal Values,” and today the spirit of that thought is urgently needed more than at any other time.

I would like to express my respect to Dr. Moon, who has circumvented the Earth four laps last year to promote world peace, inheriting Reverend Moon’s will. I think that's exactly why she is praised as a "True Mother, a mother of peace" who is creating peace in the world.

Japan also welcomed Dr. Moon in October 2019 at the Japan Summit on the theme of “East Asian Peace and the Perspective of Japan-U.S.-Korea Cooperation in the Era of the Civilization of the Pacific,” when we also held the Hyojeong Cultural Blessing with 40,000 participants. And she gave us a wonderful speech.

Finally, I sincerely pray that the World Summit will host a lively discussion on solving the world's conflicts, ethnic problems, environmental problems, hunger, poverty, family problems, and so forth so that we can work together and govern with great success. Greetings on behalf of the participants and leaders from Japan. Thank you very much.
