Patawan, Philippines - The Religious Youth Service (RYS) project in Barangay Tanabag had an ecumenical focus, drawing together 47 participants from nine Christian denominations for their 13th Island Friendship Project.
The host site was in a very poor area of the Philippines. From October 20-24, 2004, participants distributed medicine to four villages, painted a school building, and distributed reading materials. Church and temple visits as well as interactive training filled the time when participants weren’t busy in service activities.
As is common on a RYS project, participants commented on how surprised they were to have such deep experiences in the short period of time.
The Governor of the region sponsored the closing ceremonies of the project, an evidence of the support and appreciation for the contribution of RYS volunteers.
This was the ninth RYS project in the Philippines.
