Participants: 24 National Project

IIIukativakanda Village, Sri Lanka—

Background: The RYS and the Women's Federation for World Peace linked together to create a series of programs in Sri Lanka that would serve three major purposes.

  1. Help with rural upliftment
  2. Create models of religious and ethnic cooperation
  3. Have urban youth reconnect to the rural aspect of life in Sri Lanka

These projects are designed to be inexpensive an easily duplicatable.

Duration: December 22 - 24, 1995

Work: Road construction in a small rural village done in conjunction with the Sarvodaya movement.

Summary: This project brought participants from Colombo's urban middle class youth to stay in the homes of local villagers and get a sense of what life is like for so many of their countrymen.
