Colombo, Sri Lanka—Every year, the Religious Youth Service (RYS) in Sri Lanka holds service projects in different locations, often remote and rural areas, in the country. This year marks the chapter’s 26th anniversary, and to celebrate this milestone, the chapter organized, in partnership with Youth and Students for Peace, a train the trainer program, on December 13, 2018 at the Horizon Campus in Malabe, Colombo.
Ten people who have been involved in RYS projects participated. The aim of the one-day program was to enable these participants to become assistant trainers for upcoming RYS projects.
The program began with remarks given by Dr. Chula Senaratne, secretary general of UPF-Sri Lanka, and Ms. Dinesha Liyanasuriya, secretary general of RYS-Sri Lanka. They introduced the trainer, Ms. Fazida Razak, who was the regional director of RYS-Asia Pacific.
Ms. Razak taught the participants how to present a topic effectively. Then, each participant was given an opportunity to practice making presentations. Additionally, Ms. Razak gave them tips and tools to enhance their communication skills.
Senior staff members, Mrs. Champa Cumaranathunga and Mr. Manoj Jayasanka, helped facilitate the program and provide necessary support.
At the conclusion of the program, everyone felt the training initiative would immensely help RYS-Sri Lanka in the future.
