Dushanbe, Tajikistan - A representative of UPF-Tajikistan, F. Beringov, together with the Children’s Public Center of Professional Orientation organized a series of lessons and an exhibition of children’s creative talents on November 20 at a center for homeless children in commemoration of Universal Children's Day.
Among the participants were dozens of children and their teachers. Unfortunately, the majority of the children could not understand Russian, but they happily showed their creative work to the UPF representative.
All inhabitants of the Center are homeless children, rescued from the city slums. The majority of them have suffered violence.
The Director of the Center, Ambassador for Peace Mavjuda Rakhmanova, explained: “Our paramount task was finding homeless children. We must give them refuge and meals; besides, we have to teach them, train them for a profession, and help them adapt in the environment. Especially, we must grant them their childhood."
F. Beringov made contacts for future cooperation with the Center. On November 30, a large exposition of children’s creative works will be displayed.
Note: In 1954, the UN General Assembly established Universal Children's Day, to be observed each year on November 20 as a day of worldwide fraternity and understanding between children. It recommended activities that promote the ideals and objectives of the UN Charter and the welfare of the children of the world.
