N'djamena, Chad - UPF International Chairman Dr. Charles S. This was part of a recent tour of several African nations to meet to meet with government officials to brief them about the work of UPF.
They were met at the airport by the consul of South Korea in Chad, special counselor to former president Goukouni Woodeye Youssouf Abakar, Ambassador for Peace Ahmatissa Bady, Ambassador for Peace Djimoko Bendita, Secretary General of UPF-Chad Ndilmbaye Nekar, and Assistant Secretary General of UPF-Chad Dounia Tog Yangar.
The delegation was received by Prime Minister Kalzeubet Pahimi Debeu. President UPF-Chad Ganda Mayoumbila introduced UPF and its objectives as well as its activities in Chad and around the world. He offered UPF's character education curriculum Discovering the Real Me as a way to counter violence in schools.
Dr. Yang thanked the government of Chad for its efforts to contribute to peace and delivered a letter of invitation to President Idris Deby Itno to attend the World Summit in Korea. The prime minister explained that the president was attending a forum about the conflict in Darfur, an example of the conflicts in countries surrounding Chad.
The delegation had hoped to meet with former president Goukouni Weddei, who had attended the UPF International Leadership Conference in Korea Feb. 9-13, 2014. He was out of the country but conversed by telephone with Mr. Adama.
A meeting took place with the vice president of the National Assembly. Dr. Yang described the situation in South Korea 50 years ago, when it was poorer than Chad. Now South Korea is ranked 11 in the global economy. He invited parliamentarians to come to Korea to learn its secrets.
There is a growing awareness among people throughout the world of the urgent need for innovative vision and bold leadership if we are to resolve the critical issues of our time. With this in mind, the World Summit convened by UPF and affiliated organizations will bring together world leaders whose individual and collective experience, wisdom and insight can help promote peace and prosperity for all the world’s peoples. In addition to the high-level sessions of the World Summit, delegates will have opportunities to meet with officials representing the government, academia, the private sector and the media.
The delegation left for Nigeria on March 31.
