Lima, Peru - Ambassadors for Peace in Peru had a very busy October, travelling to many different parts of Peru to give talks and take part in events representing the Universal Peace Federation and its values.
As the month began, UPF-Peru President Dr. Trevor Jones, together with Vice President Rev. Dr. Orestes Sanchez, organized Peace Marches in Lima and Tumbes, following up on the celebration of the International Day of Peace in the Peruvian Congress in September.
Dr. Jones then invited a number of Christian ministers and leaders to a breakfast meeting in the UPF headquarters in Lima to propose to them the formation of a “Christian Alliance” based on the model of the American Clergy Leadership Conference in the USA. The ministers responded very favorably and have since met on a weekly basis to develop the structure and objectives of this new group.
A few days later Dr. Jones attended a meeting of residents of Indepencia, one of the districts of Lima, where more than 400 people gathered to listen to various presentations from the district mayor and Dr. Jones as well as other Ambassadors for Peace and the co-sponsors. Dr. Jones was presented with a trophy in recognition of his work for peace in Peru, and other speakers received copies of UPF Founder Reverend Sun Myung Moon’s autobiography.
During the International Day of Peace in September the leaders of the Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles in Peru and their associates were appointed as Young Ambassadors for Peace, and since that time they have been meeting regularly making plans for some social projects before Christmas.
Other Ambassadors were also active in October. The past President of UPF-Peru, Arq. Luis Huarcaya, spoke at a graduation meeting of Army Cadets in Lima, where his theme was “Finding the path of Peace.”
The President of the UPF Commission for Art and Sports was also very busy, visiting many remote towns in Peru to give education to young people involved in sports. More details of this can also be found on the Peru chapter page: www.upf.org/peru
