Balashikha, Russia - UPF-Russia organized a meeting of Young Ambassadors for Peace, journalists, and Korean War Veterans on the 62nd anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War. The information project entitled "One Korea" was connected with UPF's Northeast Asia Peace Initiative, which seeks the peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula.
On the eve of the date, June 23, 2012, in the premises of the Anti-aircraft Defense Troops Museum located in Balashikha, a city in the Moscow region, a meeting for Korean War veterans residing in the Moscow region was organized by the efforts of the information-and-analytical portal “OneKorea.RU” editorial staff. Among the participants in the commemorative event were youth activists of the “Mister and Miss University” project and a group of UPF representatives headed by Ambassador for Peace and Korean War veteran Vladimir Arsenkin.
The program was very interesting and informative; unfortunately, not many guests attended the event because the museum is located far from public transportation, and for many people it was quite a problem to come.
In their speeches, veterans expressed their regret that the scanty information about the Korean War has resulted in historical falsifications that appear in the media and on television.
The veterans were greatly impressed by the exhibits at the Anti-aircraft Defense Troops Museum, where they could observe unique specimens of armaments and military equipment. The Museum staff warmly welcomed the guests and showed them around. As a result of the meeting, the staff of the Museum and the Korean War Veterans' Council made plans for future cooperation in preparing for the observance of the 60th anniversary of the Korean War's truce on July 27, 2013.
