Seoul, Korea—Participants of the Latin America Summit and the 32nd International Leadership Conference (ILC) shared their experiences at a meeting UPF-Argentina organized on September 27, 2018 at the Cisneros auditorium (UAI) in Buenos Aires city. The theme of the gathering was “Addressing the Critical Challenges of Our Time: Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity and Universal Values.”

First, the secretary-general of UPF-South America, Dr. Simao Ferabolli, who came to Buenos Aires to join the G20 Interfaith Forum, spoke about the Latin America Summit and 32nd ILC, which were held in August in Brazil and Korea, respectively (1).

Afterwards, Mrs. María José Sepúlveda; pastor Noemí Paredes; Mrs. Patricia Pitaluga, president of the NGO Acercando Naciones; Dr. Abel Albino; and Dr. David Frol shared their experiences. Those who could not attend the meeting but sent messages were parliamentarians Hon. Humberto Benedetto and Hon. Alberto Asseff, Prof. Vanina Mazzetti, and activist Cristian Martínez.

Afterwards, Mr. Ferabolli as well as Mr. Carlos Varga and Mr. Miguel Werner, director and secretary-general of UPF-Argentina, respectively, gave an award to Dr. Albino, founder and president of Fundación CONIN, for his outstanding efforts to eradicate poverty and child malnutrition, and for his academic and educational work. Later, Ms. Mijo Obi, Ms. Motomi Hirai, Ms. Nichika Kabakino, Ms. Mizuna Shinozaki and Ms. Satusuki Muto, youth Ambassadors for Peace from Japan, performed a song.

Lastly, Ambassadors for Peace Mr. Christian Oreb, general coordinator of Red Cooperar, and Mr. Jorge Alcaraz, from the Argentinian Society of Writers (SADE) in Almafuerte, went on stage. Wearing Peace Road shirts, they invited everyone to join the Peace Road 2018 event in Argentina to be held on October 28. Before this, a video about this year’s Peace Road, a global initiative whose mottos are “Connecting the World through Peace” and “Realizing the Dream of One Global Family,” was shown.

The meeting was sponsored by Acercando Naciones, with support from the Africa House in Argentina, the Argentinian School of Yoga and Ayurveda; the radio show Esperanza Argentina; and the gazette Gaceta del Veterano de Guerra de Malvinas.

(1) The Latin America Summit, whose theme was “Peace and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean: Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity and Universal Values,” was held in Sao Paolo, Brazil from August 2 to 5, 2018. The 32nd International Leadership Conference (ILC): “Addressing the Critical Challenges of Our Time: The Responsibility of Parliamentarians and Religious Leaders” was held in Seoul, Korea from August 26 to 30, 2018.
