Dialogue & Alliance: Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity and Universal Values

New York, USA—The 2018 double issue of Dialogue & Alliance, a journal of UPF, is now available. The theme of this issue is “Voices for Peace.”
This issue of Dialogue and Alliance features articles that are drawn from presentations delivered at three separate conferences sponsored by the Universal Peace Federation in 2018, and which in various ways address the theme of “Interdependence, Mutual Prosperity and Universal Values.” This theme has been highlighted in both the International Leadership Conference series of UPF and in the World Summit series, both of which are flagship programs of the UPF. In addition, this theme has been accented in the work of two program areas of the UPF, namely, the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) and the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD), both of which organizations are committed to promoting dialogue, collaboration, mutual respect and cooperation for peace and development among the members of the whole human family.
The first set of articles were initially presented during an International Leadership Conference in April of 2018, at which time the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development for UPF’s Europe and Middle East Region was inaugurated, in Vienna, Austria. UPF advocates and promotes not only interreligious dialogue and cooperation, but extends that moral and spiritual vision to include persons from other sectors, guided by a principle that a wide, multi-sectoral dialogue is required if we are to bring an end to conflict, promote the sustainable development goals, and achieve peace.
The second set of articles were presented in Seoul, Korea, again at an International Leadership Conference that included delegates from both the IAPP and the IAPD, and which took place in August 2018. A particular focus of this ILC program was peace and security on the Korean peninsula, a part of the work that impacts not only Northeast Asia, but the entire Asian region and the world. The contributors to this section promote the principles of dialogue and collaboration, and soft-power approaches to peace and development.
The final set of articles draws from a special program of the Interreligious Association of Peace and Development, convened in New York in November of 2018. More than 300 religious leaders were present, representing a wide range of religious traditions and perspectives. This meeting marked the inauguration of the IAPD North America, and included not only scholarly presentations but also interfaith prayer, meditation and scripture readings that brought a heightened sense of the common ground that we all share as we work together for peace.
