Health Care Needed for Nepal Flood Victims

Flooding as a result of monsoon rains has hit southern Nepal and the Indian state of Bihar. The Kosi River burst its banks in Nepal on August 18 and changed course, breaching embankments and submerging all roads leading to the region. More than 60,000 people in Nepal and hundreds of thousands of people downriver in India have been displaced.
The International Relief Friendship Foundation-Nepal is coordinating with Avenues TV of Nepal, non-governmental organizations, the Home Ministry of Nepal, and the Family Party of Nepal in collecting used clothes, dry food, and medicine. Further support is needed, since the situation has become worse than expected. Nearly 80,000 Nepalis, most of them children and the elderly, are without basic food, clothing, medicine, and shelter.
Medicines and health checkups are the most urgent needs, particularly for children and the elderly who are suffering from water-borne disease. Therefore, we are organizing immediate distribution of medicines and free health checkups.
