As the summer holidays were coming to an end and children were waiting for the new school year to begin, we invited five little girls in our neighborhood for an afternoon of crafts on August 26 together with a young Ambassador for Peace, Sarah, 19 years old, who is setting her sights on becoming a primary school teacher.
It happened to be an international gathering, for we could count eight different nationalities around the table.
The little girls, from seven to ten years old, folded a colorful paper box, using the origami technique, which they filled with cookies. Then we played group games as an outdoor activity while the cookies were baking.
I believe this kind of activity lets people discover the value of knowing other cultures.
This small activity will help generate other projects at a local level, through which we hope to have a positive influence on neighboring children.
