Dear Friends,

On Saturday October 30th, one day prior to the official end of the hurricane season, Saint Lucia was
devastated by Hurricane Tomas which has been described as the worst natural disaster in recent history.
Though a category 1 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph, it had storm strength winds
extending 170 miles from the center, accompanied by torrential rainfall. A number of homes were
damaged or lost and infrastructure was severely damaged. Major landslides isolated the town of Soufriere
and residents of the community of Fond St. Jacques had to be evacuated due to the unstable conditions of
the terrain. It has since been determined that these residents will not be able to return to their homes and
will therefore have to be relocated. Bridges and roads were washed away, rivers over flowed their banks;
the count for loss of life is twelve with fifteen people still unaccounted for and presumed to be dead. The
damage is heartbreaking and Prime Minister Stephenson King estimates that the cost of repairs will
exceed USD $100 million.

Because the ongoing needs of the people and the rebuilding efforts are paramount we applaud you, for
your willingness to support our efforts. Your generous donation at this time of giving will go a long way
towards assisting our brothers and sisters in their time of need.

Accounts have been established at J P Morgan Chase to receive donations for the Hurricane Tomas Relief
Efforts.

On behalf of the Government and people of Saint Lucia, please allow me to thank you in advance for your
anticipated support, prayers and kind donations.

Respectfully,
Dr. Donatus St. Aimee/Ambassador
