Prespa Lake, Albania - As the summer recreation season approached, UPF organized a beach clean-up on June 6, 2011, in honor of World Environment Day. It was decided to clean the shores of Prespa Lake, which is visited by foreign and local tourists. It is a fresh-water lake in eastern Albania on the borders of Greece and Macedonia.
UPF brought 24 people, including Ambassadors for Peace, to the project; we were joined by 12 members of the local government administration, headed by the mayor of the village.
World Environment Day (celebrated annually on June 5) stimulates the conscience of the people about the importance of the environment and encourages everyone to take action to care for it. UPF views the environment as a part of creation that God has freely given to us. Also, the best way to increase our love for the creation is through taking care of the places where we live and breathe.
Our work made a visible difference on the surroundings and on the mind‐set of the administrators, who mentioned that the lake shore should be cleaned more often.
