Kiev, Ukraine - A spring art contest for compositions on the theme “The Great Day of Easter” took place in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, on April 20. The project was initiated by the Kiev Center of Families, the Universal Peace Federation, and a grassroots organization of families with many children in the Shevchenko district of Kiev.

More than 200 children entered works into the contest, and they were carefully evaluated by the jury for one month. Among the works submitted were handicrafts, drawings, embroidery, and hand-made rag dolls.

There were winners in different age groups. The children were happy when they received prizes to the applause of the audience of about 100 people. The atmosphere was joyous and festive with shiny children’s faces and happy smiles of their parents. The ceremonies of prize-giving alternated with performances by the contestants. A special prize was given to a family with 11 children, all of whom entered works in the contest.

The initiators of the event emphasized that the work of the contestants was inspired by the support and love of their parents. Therefore, whole families could be considered winners.

The results indicated that this offered a signification opportunity for parents to express their love to their children, who in their turn could feel the concern and support of their parents. Furthermore, parents shared about their family history and their Christian roots that formed the foundation of the Ukraine.

Note: This year Easter was celebrated on April 15 in eastern Orthodox churches, including in the Ukraine.
