Chisinau, Moldova - UPF-Moldova, in cooperation with the Moldovan branch of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification and other volunteers, organized a collection of clothing and shoes for Syrian refugees over the Christmas holidays.
This activity was organized in response to a December appeal on social networks made by the Islamic League of Moldova for money and winter clothing to be given to refugees from the Syrian conflict of recent years.
On Jan. 3, 2014, the boxes of donated goods were delivered to the headquarters of the Islamic League of Moldova. Sergei Sochirca, the head of a major Muslim community of Moldova, expressed sincere thanks for the clothing and shoes. He mentioned that a truck with medicine and clothes would depart that same day from Moldova, heading to a camp for Syrian refugees.
Mr. Sochirca suggested that a roundtable be organized in the near future to discuss the things that different religions have in common and how people of faith can cooperate.
Through this collection, volunteers hope to stimulate more interfaith cooperation in Republic of Moldova.
The collection was a good start for future joint activities in preparation for celebrating the United Nations-declared World Interfaith Harmony Week, which takes place in the first week of February.
