Concert in London Raises Funds for North Korean Children's Hospital

London, UK - A charitable concert at 43 Lancaster Gate, London, on April 12, 2014 raised funds for humanitarian projects to benefit North Korean children. UPF-UK, Youth UPF-UK and the International Relief and Friendship Foundation-UK partnered with the Red Cross of North Korea to set up and supply a children's hospital in Nam Po near the country's capital of Pyongyang, where currently there is none.
The concert featured singers and musicians who donated their efforts for the cause. The audience enjoyed spicy Korean food as well as learned about the jointly supported North Korean Medical Project and other humanitarian efforts of the International Relief Friendship Foundation.
Many efforts by Margaret Ali, Christa Kamga, Peter Graham and Ashley Crosthwaite 
and others brought this concert together. There was great support from many others to prepare food and other items.
Ashley Crosthwaite explained the development of the North Korean Medical Project that has been coordinated by Mark Brann, Secretary General of UPF-Europe. He outlined the types of equipment and supplies that had been sent already.
Youth UPF Europe initiated their own project for North Korea, managed by Amira Al-Houderi and Hazel Fagcang together with Youth UPF director, Christa Kamga, who shared briefly about the project during the evening program.

The plight of the people of North Korea is a desperate one due to the failing economy and successive crop failures and resultant famines. But the plight of its children is even more pitiful. They desperately need medical attention but there are little if any supplies of even the most basic kind, such as anesthetics and antibiotics, bandages, ointments, etc., let alone more sophisticated items.
Thus far, five sea containers and two special air shipments have been made of desperately needed supplies and equipment such as an X-ray clinic, breathing machines, surgical aids, medical dressings, surgical microscopes, special food supplements, anesthetics and antibiotics. But much more should be done to alleviate a painfully difficult situation.
