Tafea State, Vanuatu - One of the main activities of UPF-Vanuatu is the New Village Movement. Since its inception in the Tafea state, UPF has focused on enhancing the New Village Movement’s organizational structure as well as educating the local residents regarding it.
Also called the Movement for Living Well, the New Village Movement is divided into a "Business Environment Improvement" project and an "Increase in Income" project. Guided by the leaders of the movement, the results of their work are becoming clearly visible in the changing mindsets of the residents.
The major product of Tafea, the southernmost of Vanuatu's states, is coffee, and thus many residents involved in the New Village Movement have eagerly planted coffee plants. In order to increase the income level of residents, the expansion of coffee exports is particularly important.
In collaboration with the Tafea state with the expectation of increasing exports of coffee to Korea, UPF-Vanuatu is engaging in advertising activities as well as inviting Korean coffee experts to visit.
Thirteen coffee experts from South Korea visited the town of Tanna, the main island of Tafea state from April 28 to May 8, 2014, and decided to begin importing the Tana coffee. They also decided to give ongoing support to the New Village Movement.
In the welcome party for the coffee experts from South Korea, New Village Movement leaders and the Tafea governor expressed deep appreciation to UPF-Vanuatu for their efforts in the development of the region and the New Village Movement of Vanuatu.
It has been decided that 1 percent of the revenue obtained through coffee exports will be used as operating costs for the New Village Movement headquarters for the development of the movement.
Special envoy Young Ju Seo has given ongoing support to the New Village Movement of Vanuatu, and thanks to this, the relationship between the New Village Movement of Vanuatu and South Korea has strengthened.
