Visale, Solomon Islands—UPF volunteers and local villagers have joined forces on a service project that will bring water to rural areas of the Solomon Islands.
The Water and Sanitation Project (WATSAN) is one of the initiatives planned by UPF-Solomon Islands for 2015.
A donation of U.S. $1,000 from UPF supporters from Japan has enabled the work on the first project in the town of Visale.
Until now, water for drinking, washing, etc., was taken from streams. People used to walk or paddle by canoe to fetch water—sometimes as much as 10 kilometers. The WATSAN Project brings the water closer to the village.
In the first project at Visale UPF bought 300 meters of plastic pipe and built three standing pipes. The villagers have shown their appreciation for the UPF project.
Organizers would like to appeal to UPF supporters to donate to the WATSAN project. Your small contributions will change the lives of many rural Solomon Islanders.
