UPF-Seychelles Conducts World Cleanup Day Activities at Children’s Home

Seychelles-2020-09-19-UPF-Seychelles Conducts World Cleanup Day Activities at Children’s Home

Victoria, Seychelles—On Saturday, September 19,2020, the National Unity Advocate newspaper, together with members of UPF-Seychelles conducted a cleaning activity at the Foyez De Nazareth children’s home to commemorate World Cleanup Day.

The National Unity Advocate came up with the idea to organize a cleaning-up activity following a donation to the less fortunate children of the Foyez of Nazareth at Anse Etoile in July 2020, in a bid to inspire others to take action and also inspire change amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Foyez De Nazareth, Anse Etoile has 15 boys and are cared for by three nuns. The National Unity Advocate is calling on other individuals and business entities to come forward and bring a helping hand to orphanages and other care facilities across the country. The National Unity Advocate also plans to continue the clean-up day and interactive activities at the Foyez De Nazareth and other such homes across the country together with the members of UPF-Seychelles in the continued spirit of living for the sake of others.

World Cleanup Day is held over the course of a 24-hour period on the third Saturday of September annually. World Cleanup Day aims to raise awareness of the mismanaged waste crisis by mobilizing all spheres of society to participate in cleanup actions. Individuals, governments, corporations and organizations are all encouraged to take part in cleanups and to find solutions to tackle mismanaged waste.

The cleanup activity at the Foyez De Nazareth started with an opening prayer by UPF-Seychelles Secretary Mrs. Suganda Betioux, after which the members engaged in preparing snacks and refreshments.

Thereon, UPF members Mrs. Suganda, Mrs. Rosemary-Elizabeth, Mr. Wilven Alcindor, Mr. Japhet Dailoo and myself proceeded outside for the clean-up of the home’s landscaping area and pathway. In the meantime, the vice-chair of UPF-Seychelles, Miss Anna Faeber, attended to the children with interactive activities.

The clean-up lasted for two hours and thereafter we gathered in the dining area for the refreshments and snacks. I then thanked the Sister in Charge and the Social Security department for granting the members the approval to conduct the activity and the opportunity to “clean-up for the sake of others.” Sister Jeannine then thanked the participants for their generosity especially towards the children and for making the time to come to Foyez De Nazareth to spend some quality time with the children. Sister Jeannine then did a prayer of thanksgiving before inviting the children to the much-awaited refreshments and snacks at hand. The members then had the opportunity to interact with the children, whilst they also enjoyed the well-presented plates of snacks and drinks.

UPF-Seychelles would like to encourage everyone to get involved through whatever action lies closest to their heart and just be humble in giving and continue to live for the sake of others. Let us all rise in unity to come forth together to help others for the greater love of our people and the world!
