Jal El Dip, Lebanon—UPF volunteers held an initial distribution of food and supplies to needy families.
With the support of two affiliated organizations—Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) and International Relief Friendship Foundation (IRFF)—UPF-Lebanon organized the distribution on September 12, 2020.
The location was the Public Garden in the village of Jal El Dip, near Beirut.
We ordered food and supplies from a supermarket, which delivered 40 boxes right to the entrance of the garden.
The boxes all contained non-perishable food, such as pasta, rice, oil, and canned tuna, as well as a big package of washing powder.
People came by at different times during the day, sometimes as individuals and sometimes as families. If they needed help carrying the heavy box, our volunteers helped them.
Before they received their box, we interviewed them about their situation and their needs. All the families were truly thankful to receive this very much needed donation.
A group of volunteers whom we called the “Beirut Peace Squad” did a great job in helping with the distribution.
Haig Askerian, a board member of the nearby town of Antelias, helped us create a database of the neediest families, assisted by the Red Cross.
