Tripoli, Lebanon—UPF-Lebanon held a second distribution of food and other items to needy families.
Following a successful distribution on September 12 of food to families in Jal El Dip, a village near Beirut, UPF held its next distribution in Tripoli, Lebanon’s second-largest city, on October 3, 2020.
Thanks to the sponsorship of several organizations that are affiliated with UPF—Women’s Federation for World Peace International, Women’s Federation for World Peace Europe, Women’s Federation for World Peace USA, and the International Relief Friendship Foundation of Germany—UPF was able to distribute 70 boxes of food and important hygiene items to 70 families.
UPF organized this event in collaboration with one of the key Ambassadors for Peace from Tripoli, Mr. Cesar Khlat, who created a database of the neediest families. He received valuable support from the muhtar of Tripoli District. (In Lebanon, the muhtar is the elected village or town head. In cities, likewise, each quarter has a muhtar. Their main responsibility is to have a good database or registration of all the families living in that particular area, including their life events.)
Our “Peace Squad,” a team of young volunteers, did a wonderful job in reaching out to the families and helping with the whole setup for the event.
Also, the manager of the supermarket where we bought the donation boxes is very supportive of our humanitarian aid and gave us a discount. He even came with the delivery crew to our distribution place to make sure all the boxes arrived well.
