Ticino, Switzerland - UPF-Ticino held the third annual Peace Cup children's soccer tournament on May 1, 2014, in cooperation with the soccer association of Novazzano in southern Switzerland.
After the recent incidents of aggression during a regional soccer game, the ten participating teams and their coaches were more than conscious of the meaning of the term “fair play.” UPF-Ticino presented trophies to all participating teams and the Peace Cup as the main award to the association who showed exceptional focus on peace education for the tournament. There were also special prizes, such as one for “best support from the spectators” and one to the team that drew the banner which expressed the spirit of “Play Football and Build Peace” in the most striking manner.

After the speech of the UPF-Ticino president there was a short address by a girl soccer player. One year ago, at the same occasion of the Peace Cup, she played for the first time and won the UPF Peace Cup award for “best goalkeeping,” and so her talent was discovered. Now she belongs to the Swiss “Under 14 National League.” Thank you, Giovanna, and all other promising fair-players!
