Moscow, Russia—Supporters of the Peace Road project participated in the 2018 running of the Moscow International Marathon.
The marathon is held annually in late September, with this year’s running held on September 23. This was the second year that Peace Road supporters ran the distance of the most prestigious Russian marathon. Some of them practiced a long time to be able to show good results; others simply ran in Peace Road T-shirts, guided by the principle “The main thing is not victory, but participation.”
The beautiful logo and bright inscription on the Peace Road banner attracted the attention of not only fellow runners but also photojournalists.
Despite the rain and autumn coolness, the results of the Peace Road supporters were quite high.
Dmitry Samko, head of the Moscow branch of UPF and the main local enthusiast of the Peace Road project, covered 10 kilometers (over 6 miles) in 52 minutes. Evgeny Mirzyanov, who came from the city of Nizhny Novgorod to support the International Highway project, showed excellent results, running a full marathon of 42.2 kilometers (over 26 miles) in 3 hours and 14 minutes.
All the Peace Road participants received a commemorative medal from the Moscow Marathon organizers. They also brought home a lot of unforgettable impressions and the knowledge that they had helped to promote the Peace Road project.
