Moscow, Russia—About 30 children aged 4 to 8 competed in a chess tournament organized by UPF.
The Radost (“Joy”) children's center hosted the White Rook rapid chess tournament, one of a series of tournaments organized by Dmitry Samko, the chairman of UPF-Moscow.
In the exciting event on May 20, 2023, children from different districts of Moscow, the Moscow Region and branches of the Joy children's center competed to win a cup in three age groups.
The tournaments bring together entire families twice a year and popularize the accessibility of chess, whose popularity in Russia continues to grow.
For some, victory in such tournaments is a long-awaited reward; for others it is also an incentive to play better. It is important that all the young chess players received commemorative medals and certificates, but the main thing in such a tournament is the atmosphere of friendship, support and the spirit of noble rivalry.
