Port-Louis, Mauritius - One hundred and fifty youths from the Sai Baba Movement were appointed Youth Ambassadors for Peace by Rev. Gaerber Ruediger, senior advisor to the Mauritius Peace Council, on August 15 at Chimaya Asram.
The program started with Rev. Gaerber Ruediger offering a song with his son Daniel, “Father and Son” by Cat Stevens, before speaking on “The Family as the Training Ground of the Heart.” He described the four types of love that each person needs to experience in the family in order to perfect their character: filial love, brotherly/sisterly love, conjugal love, and parental love. He said that most families today are dysfunctional because people did not go through this process properly.
“Relationships that we build in the family as we are growing up help us to cope in society and ultimately in forming our own family,” he said. “For example," he added, “a boy who has a good relationship with his mother and sister(s) is better prepared for a good relationship with his wife. This is valid also for the relationship of a girl with her brother(s) and father.”
Rev. Jessica Chung-To, Secretary General of UPF-Mauritius, speaking on the importance of a life of purity and the meaning of being a true Ambassador for Peace, encouraged the young people to abstain from sexual relations before marriage in order to focus on building their character and achieving their dreams. She also emphasized the importance of serving the greater good. A video about “Young Ambassadors for Peace” was shown.
The Universal Peace Federation delegation was invited by Mrs. Gayeetree Ramchurn Samboo, Director of the Indian Ocean Center for the Sathya Sai Education in Human Values and an Ambassador for Peace, to introduce the Universal Peace Federation to the Sai Baba youths who were having their National Youth Conference on “Faith and Truth in God.”
