Tyumen, Russia - A psychologist who initiated the project “SoStudent.ru” and UPF activist, Evgeny Skvortsov, attended the meeting of youth leaders of the Tyumen region March 23-24 and conducted a number of classes for high school students and educators.
In the main part of the educational program, the themes about development of volunteerism were brought up. Volunteers of school initiatives watched the presentation “Volunteerism as a life style”; the presentation “Youth as a hope for peace” was shown to students-volunteers. E. Skvortsov lectured on a value-oriented approach to volunteerism and gave a master-class on “Motivation and personal growth of volunteers” using UPF's Lake Baikal project as an example. The program was connected to the topic of developing volunteerism.
“Volunteerism cannot be taught in a class," he said. "One should go out and personally participate in some volunteer project. But at informational meetings one can become enthusiastic about becoming a volunteer, acquire a volunteer mindset, and learn more about advantages of volunteerism." Presentations based on personal experience of initiating such volunteer projects were accepted enthusiastically by all participants.
He also guided participants through a role-playing game called “Five principles of peace.” The 60 participants divided into groups representing different sectors of society and discussed issues important for creating world peace.
