A Young Russian Impresses Belgrade Forum

Moscow, Russia - Lily Romadan, a Young Ambassador for Peace, represented Russia as a participant of the Belgrade Forum for International Security. Her presentation on "Youth Policy of the Russian Federation in the Field of Peacekeeping" was very well received by the delegates and the conference organizers.

The forum, which took place on March 22-24, 2014, in the Serbian capital, was timed to coincide with the 15th anniversary of the start of the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. Held under the slogan “YES, it will not be forgotten,” the forum was a joint project of the Belgrade Forum of Peace for Equals, the Serbian Society of Householders, the Club of Generals and Admirals of Serbia, and the Association of Serbian Veterans.

Among the members of the presidium were such prominent public and political figures as Zivadin Jovanovic, chairman of the Belgrade Forum of Peace for Equals and former minister of foreign affairs of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia; Momir Bulatovic, doctor of sciences and former prime minister of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia; Socorro Gomes, president of the World Peace Council, Brazil; Ratko Markovic, professor, former deputy prime minister of Serbia and head of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia delegation to the 1999 Rambouillet talks; Elena Gus'kova, academician; Leonid Ivashov, professor and general, and others.

After winning a tough competition among activists, Lily Romadan, a student of the University of Kazan, Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Department, represented the interests of the Russian Federation in the youth section. In her speech she spoke about UPF activities and raised the subject of reforms in the field of peacekeeping and peacebuilding. It should be noted that Lily spoke in English, showing a high level of proficiency.

Lily said afterward: "My speech at a conference of this magnitude was an invaluable experience for me. Representing the youth of our vast country was a great honor and responsibility for me. I am happy that my report was widely welcomed and appreciated not only by my colleagues, European youth leaders, but also by venerable scientists and prominent diplomats. I was able to personally interact with the former minister of foreign affairs of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, ambassadors and public figures from around the world. In general, I am very pleased with the trip. As for my impressions of Belgrade, it is difficult to express in words the whole gamut of emotions that I felt during those days. Extraordinarily beautiful city, extraordinarily kind and helpful people!"
