Abuja, Nigeria - The executive secretary of the National Commission for Colleges in Education has approved the request for partnership by UPF Nigeria to establish Peace Clubs in all the colleges of education in Nigeria. The approval was contained in a letter to the secretary general of UPF-Nigeria dated June 11, 2014 in response to the UPF-Nigeria letter to the Commission dated 20 January 2014. The letter signed by ag director, Academic Programs Department of the Commission, Muhammad Sani Aliyu, for the executive secretary states that "I am directed to inform you that the Executive Secretary has approved that we (NCCE) partner with the Universal Peace Federation" for the purposes of establishing peace clubs in the colleges.
By this approval, we shall be working together with the commission to ensure that Peace Clubs are established in all the colleges of education in Nigeria. The colleges of education are the formal educational institutions responsible for the training of teachers for primary and junior secondary schools in Nigeria. The commission is looking forward to working together to create Peace Clubs in the over 80 colleges of education as well as introduction of peace education in the colleges in the days ahead.
