Tbilisi, Georgia - On May 15 Universal Peace Federation in collaboration with UN office, the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Abkhazia, and young volunteers organized a celebration of UN International Day of Families for international families.
One hundred and twenty parents and children joined a holiday in the House of Composers. Georgian-Abkhazian, Georgian-Armenian, Georgian-Ossetian, Georgian-Russian, Georgian-Pakistani, Georgian-Polish, and Armenian-Assyrian families participated.
The celebration started with a silent meditation for peace. Ambassador for Peace Mrs. Dalila Khorava, Minister of Health, Labor and Social Affairs of Georgia’s Abkhazian government. warmly welcomed the participants. Chairman of UPF in Georgia Vitaly Maksimov delivered the message about the value of the family as a school of love and peace. Guests learned about the history and significance of the UN International Day of Families.
Parents and children participated in diverse contests with great enthusiasm; no one wanted to be just an observer. Some families received special awards:
- “United family” – a lovely family with five children
- “Good Hearts” – a family that is actively participating in the social life of the country
- “Joyous Family” – for the storm of applause and loud cheers
- “Wonderful Children” – to children who showed extreme excitement and a willingness to participate in games and contests
- “Sports Family” – for the victors in sport competitions
Then guests answered family quiz questions; correct answers were awarded with prizes.
Then we enjoyed a nice concert. Famous and young singers and dancers performed, melting the hearts of the audience. Eter Kakulia, Boka Kvekveskiri, Paata Tediashvili, the ensemble “Lazika,” Anna Hanchalyan, Bella Petrosyan, and Galina Nalbandyan performed on the stage.
After the concert families received presents and enjoyed nice refreshments. People experienced the atmosphere of love and friendship and didn’t want to leave the celebration.
