UPF Hosts Peace Road 2018 in Nepal

Nepal-2018-05-19-UPF Hosts Peace Road 2018 in Nepal

Kathmandu, Nepal—Jointly organized by the Nepal chapter of UPF and the Nagarjun Municipality, Peace Road 2018 took place on May 19. The chairperson of Peace Road-Nepal 2018 was Hon. Milan K. Rajbanshi, a former member of parliament, and it was inaugurated by Municipal Mayor Mohan Bahadur Basnet and Deputy Mayor Sushila Adhikari. Former Minister of State Hon. Parshu Ram Tamang and former Member of Parliament Hon. Dor Prasad Upadhay, a member of the Nepal chapter of the International Association of Parliamentarians, participated in the event.

The program took place on the grounds of the Jana Uddhar High School, where gathered. It started with a special martial arts demonstration by Tong Il Moo-Do participants and a song by the modern pop singer Ms. Prashna Panday, which created a good environment for the participants.

Mr. Keshav Shrestha, director of the Nepal chapter of the Pure Love Alliance, was the Master of Ceremonies, and Mr. Bhuwan Giri, senior officer of the Nagarjun Municipality, gave opening remarks. Mr. Binod Danji, secretary general of UPF-Nepal, explained the purpose of the event, and Mr. Santosh Kumar Paudel, representing the Nepal branch of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, offered some brief remarks.

The main address of the day was given by Mayor Mohan Bahadur Basnet. Mayor Basnet said to the participants, “It’s my pride to host the Peace Road in my area of responsibility, and I am very happy to join in this activity. Dr. Moon’s initiative of creating a peaceful world cannot be realized without a peaceful community, and a peaceful community needs peaceful families. In this regard, I fully support this kind of program for the sake of my community. I hosted this event to bring the message of peace and reconciliation in my country."

UPF’s peace activities inspired Mayor Basnet to take responsibility for this initiative. He attended an Asian Leadership Conference in Bangkok and was ignited by the vision and mission of UPF’s founders. He donated $2,000 for Peace Road 2018 and mobilized his office to support the event. The municipal host is committed to work with UPF-Nepal and affiliate organizations.

Over three hundred people, including a Buddhist cyclist club, a youth club, many Ambassadors for Peace, and representatives from other civic organizations took part in the program. UPF’s Peace Road project is an outgrowth of the vision of UPF Founder Sun Myung Moon for an international highway connecting all continents. It began in the United States in 2015 and has expanded to become a series of international annual events.
