World AIDS Day Honored by Youth and Students for Peace
Kinshasa, DR Congo—Celebrated on December 1 of each year, World AIDS Day did not go unnoticed by Youth and Students for Peace (YSP)-DR Congo; we held a conference at a school on that day that was attended by about 150 students between the ages of 14 and 20 and by eight teachers and aides. The school was founded by Honore Loango, UPF-DR Congo member and Ambassador for Peace.
The aim of the conference was to encourage students and teachers to prevent the spread of AIDS by leading a life of sexual purity before marriage and fidelity in marriage. The conference’s theme was “My responsibility to eradicate AIDS and my contribution to the fight against promiscuity.” It was part of a “Pure Love” campaign launched by YSP in October to create Pure Love Clubs in schools and colleges throughout the country.
The program included an educational presentation by a doctor about the origin, symptoms, transmission, and prevention of AIDS, testimonies about the importance of maintaining sexual purity before marriage by young people, and questions and comments from the audience. Mr. Loango gave the final speech, in which he encouraged his pupils to join that schools chapter of the Pure Love Club, which will be inaugurated shortly.
The event was closed with a prayer and the singing of the national anthem, followed by a group photo. We thank the DR-Congo chapter of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, whose assistance made possible the success of this activity.
