International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace

IAPP and IAPD Inaugurated in Taiwan

Taiwan-2018-05-19-Leaders Assemble to Launch IAPP and IAPD in Taipei

Taipei, Taiwan—More than 180 political and religious leaders participated in the launching ceremonies for the International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) and the Interreligious Association for Peace and Development (IAPD) on May 19, 2018, in Taipei, Taiwan. The ceremonies were held in conjunction with a forum on the theme: “The Responsibility of Political and Religious Leaders in Addressing the Critical Challenges of Our Time.”

Participants at the event, held at Howard Civil Service International House, included legislators, members of the Taipei City Council and other representatives of government, as well as religious leaders, women and community leaders. Mr. Chen Tuo-Huan, president of UPF-Taiwan, emphasized the need for collaboration between the political and religious spheres to unite their strength and wisdom to foster peace and harmony in society. He likened the roles of the IAPD and IAPP to those of mind and body, and stressed the importance of cooperation between the two initiatives.

Three guests—the Hon. Po-Ya Chang, president of the Control Yuan; the Hon. Manli Chen, a legislator; and Ven. Minyi, president of the Buddhist Youth Association—hit the gong to mark the successful launch of the IAPP and IAPD. This was followed by speeches given by seven speakers, who offered valuable insights and thoughtful commentaries based on the theme.

Legislator Hon. Kung Wen-Chi offered congratulatory remarks.

Former legislator Hon. Lu Hsueh-chang was appointed as honorary chairman of the IAPP-Taiwan and legislator Hon. Kuan Bi-ling was appointed as an honorary advisor of the local IAPP chapter.
