Kuala Lumpur and Penang, Malaysia—UPF-Malaysia successfully organized Peace Road projects in these two major cities of the nation, namely Kuala Lumpur and Penang, on September 30, 2018, and October 7, 2018, respectively. Both Peace Road events drew crowds of more than 6,000 participants from all walks of life to honor the vision of UPF’s founders to connect the world through the International Peace Highway. Participants also celebrated the peaceful unity and spirit of muhibbah (togetherness) in multicultural Malaysia in line with the theme of “One Nation, One Heart.”
Peace Road Kuala Lumpur was organized in the City Hall Square located in the heart of Malaysia’s capital city. This event gained support from the mayor’s office of Kuala Lumpur City.
Among the guests of honor who took part in the launching of the event were H.E. Stefan Priesner, the UN resident representative to Malaysia; H.E. Wencelito Tan Andanar Al-Haj, special envoy of the president of Philippines to Malaysia; and Dato’ Nor Hisham bin Ahmad Dahlan, the mayor of Kuala Lumpur City.
Meanwhile, Peace Road Penang was held in collaboration with one of the most prestigious public universities in Malaysia: The University of Science Malaysia (USM), on the beautiful island of Penang. This event was endorsed by the Penang State government and was successfully held at the USM Minden Field despite the heavy rain in the morning.
Both Peace Road events were also conducted as charity runs and raised funds for volunteer activities under UPF and other NGOs. The events also featured many other exciting activities including Zumba dances, games and door prizes. Many participants joined the event with their families and had a great time together.
All organizers expressed their satisfaction for the wonderful outcome and also their desire to collaborate with UPF again in the future to further spread the messages of peace and unity.
