We have the opportunity to reflect on the importance of dialogue among civilizations to world peace and the contributions of the family and universal values to that process.
Each year, hundreds of thousands of Muslims throughout the world come to Western civilization and learn from it. And I feel that Western civilization also learns many things from Islam. So, this mutual learning should be emphasized.
Indonesia - Mr. Alwi Shihab and Dr. Habib Chirzin welcomed Dr. and Mrs. Sun Myung Moon on Indonesia for the inauguration of the Universal Peace Federation.
Indonesia— The project involved leveling a local schoolyard, laying a bed of sand and cement, and positioning new paving bricks. Also six “restoration teams” (of eight people each) gave the classrooms a much-needed face-lift.
Jakarta, Indonesia— The 5th RYS drew participants together under the theme of “Building a Culture of Peace and Volunteerism.”
Jogjakarta, Indonesia—To help heal the past animosity between the Chinese Indonesian and the Malay Indonesian communities the Indonesian Confucius Society helped organize RYS work at an old Islamic School.
Excerpts from presentations at a Dec. 20-23, 2001 conference in Jakarta. Participants issued a statement declaring, among other points, that "Dialogue toward harmony and understanding is a Muslim religious responsibility."
