Las Vegas, USA - In the final years of his life, UPF founder Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon initiated a project in Las Vegas aimed at offering a new vision for peace and human development to world leaders. He sometimes called it his “Shining City” project because he hoped it would help change the reputation of Las Vegas from “Sin City” to a city of educational enlightenment.
Washington DC, USA - The autumn Japanese Tea Ceremony was held at the UPF’s Peace Embassy in Washington, DC Nov. 21, 2013. Two sessions allowed a total of 60 diplomats including seven ambassadors from 26 embassies, Ambassadors for Peace, friends of UPF and the staff to enjoy either lunch or dinner despite their busy schedules.

Los Angeles, USA - Sunny skies and a warm California breeze greeted the 70 participants coming to El Segundo, southwest of Los Angeles, for an American Leadership Conference on the theme of USA at a Turning Point: Building a Nation and a World of Peace, Nov. 15-16. Speakers talked about the impact that UPF’s peace principles have had on their lives and emphasized good governance, strengthening marriage and family, promoting interfaith dialogue, and outreach to youth.

The current return of religion has been extraordinarily apparent throughout the entire world. Religion has a stronger hold now than it has had for a long time in many parts of the world. It is successfully discussed in the media and politics. Politics is permeated by faith sentiments and beliefs. It seems that religion is not colliding with modernity. On the contrary, religion and modernity are merged in a harmonious way.
New York, USA - A first ladies high-level forum on “Building Bridges for Peace and Health Disability” took place Sept. 24, 2013, as a side event during the opening of the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly.
Washington DC, USA - A forum on Alternative Futures for the Korean Peninsula and US Foreign Policy Options on Sept. 26, 2013, featured a presentation by Ambassador Christopher Hill, former Assistant Secretary of State for Asia and the Pacific.
Berkeley, USA - A forum on "Paths to Peace: Building Compassion and Commitment to Transformation" took place on September 8 at the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California. Keynote speakers included Prof. David McGaffey, speaking on "Swords into Plowshares, Enemies into Friends" and Yogacharya Ellen Grace O'Brian on "Compassion Is the Key to Peace."
The National Parents’ Day Coalition celebrated Parents' Day in a variety of ways across the US during the month of July. The Coalition held two national-level awards ceremonies -- one on the East Coast in New Jersey and one on the West Coast in California.

New York, USA - Africa Day 2013 marked the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity, which gave way for the establishment of the African Union. On June 26, a New York 50th Anniversary Gala Celebration for Africa Day was held in Manhattan, co-sponsored by the African Group and the African Union in partnership with the Universal Peace Federation and the United Nations African Ambassadors Spouses Group.
