International Young Leaders Summit in Kenya
Nairobi, Kenya - The International Young Leaders Summit of the Universal Peace Federation and the Youth Federation for World Peace was held in Nairobi, Kenya with the theme: "The Role of Young Leaders in Achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals and Peace Building in Africa." Kenya Jaycees President Vincent Rapando reported that this was the first event of its kind in Kenya, drawing young leaders across the continent and the Middle East to ignite a youth peacebuilding movement inspired by the vision of the Global Peace Festival and its theme of One Family under God.

CambodiaPhnom Penh, Cambodia - This year marked the 30th anniversary of the overthrow of the Pol Pot dictatorship that brutally slaughtered as many as two million Cambodians - one third of the population. In March, the trial began in Phnom Penh, the capital, for "Duch," the former prison chief of the notorious Toul Sleng prison.

MDGs and the Role of Women

New York, USA - The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are "a blueprint for international cooperation" and "a worldwide mandate for change," according to H.E. Hamid Al Bayati, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Iraq to the United Nations and member of the UN Commission on the Status of Women. However, there is a distressing lack of progress towards such goals as reducing women's illiteracy, HIV infection, and death in childbirth.

Saudi Scholar Addresses Canadian UPF Chapter

Baby ShineToronto, Canada - The Toronto chapter of UPF-Canada welcomed Saudi religious scholar, businessman, and writer Sheikh Ali Bin Sa'ad Ashshahrani to their office at Mavety, Toronto. Upon his arrival, Sheikh Ali was received by UPF Central District Chairman Dr. Hoossen Auckbaraullee and other high-ranking UPF officials. Sheikh Ali was accompanied by his Canadian host Sheikh Shazaad Rasul Mohammed, President and Founder of The Canadian Dawah Association, who is also an Ambassador for Peace with UPF, based in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Sheikh Shazaad has a degree in the Arabic language as well as a Bachelors of Law degree in Islamic Shariah.

'Power of 10 Sen' Raises Funds for Gaza Children

The President of UPF-Malaysia, Tan Sri Zaleha Ismail, has been seeking ways to connect the young people of her country with the world. Giving donations to help needy children in Gaza is a tangible way for people living in a distant country to offer aid in the spirit of one family under God. The fund-raising drive is being carried out in partnership with the Red Crescent Society of Malaysia, with the endorsement of the Ministry of Unity and the Ministry of Education.
