Pokrovskoye, Russia - A training-workshop called “Magic Land” in the village of Pokrovskoye in the Sverdlovsk region of central Russia included educational activities, games, sports, music, theatrical productions and service activities in August 2010.
Karelia, Russia - The second International Innovation Forum “Hyperborea – 2010” took place August 3-9 on the theme of “Active Youth.” it was initiated by the State Committee of Youth Affairs of the Karelian Republic and the Regional Youth Center of Karelia. The main purpose was to train an international youth team of Hyperboreans, self-developing people with high morals and ability to formulate and realize their goals.
Slyudyanka, Russia - The annual Lake Baikal Project July 1-Aug 6, 2010 included a workshop on volunteerism, ecological projects and walking along the tourist path from the Slyudyanka Mountain to Chersky Peak.
Washington, DC, USA - The UPF office in Washington, DC, is partnering with District of Columbia Department of Health, Project WISH (Women Into Staying Healthy) Program to promote breast and cervical cancer awareness, screening, and health education to minority women in the District of Columbia and its suburbs.
Moscow, Russia - On July 14, in school №1417, a children’s sports celebration was organized on the occasion of the summer holidays. Children from neighboring houses and from neighboring districts (those who were not scared away by the unusual Moscow heat) came to spend time together in a most pleasant and fruitful way.
London, UK - From campaigners against child soldiers in Africa to those who were battling gang violence on the streets of London or environment clean up service projects, the common theme of the Youth Achievement Awards event in the House of Lords Committee Room on July 14 was exemplary young people who, as Tom Brake MP commented, had ‘got off their butts and in some cases had put their life on the line to make a difference’
UPF volunteers organized projects in June 2010 in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg centered around creating murals, researching genealogy, horseback riding and dart competitions.
Revda, Russia - On June 16 on the football field of school №10, children from the summer camp “Major’s Labor squads” participated in a Play Football Make Peace tournament.
Religious Youth Service Director John Gehring visited Hong Kong and Macau after the May 7-16, 2010 project in Thailand and met with students, religious leaders, and peace activists to explore avenues of interest in Religious Youth Service programs.
Tirana, Albania - UPF-Albania joined the National Institute for the Integration of Albanian Orphans in a number of events to draw national attention to the needs of orphans. The occasion was the “Award of Gratitude” to the Institute on May 19 by the president of Albania, Bamir Topi, for its work.
Plaeng Yao, Chacheongsao Province, Thailand - Young adults from 10 nations representing five religions came to the rural area of Thailand where the local school had only four classrooms for six grades. When they left the village, they had dramatically elevated the four classrooms nearly four meters, in order to create space below for four new rooms-more than enough space to allow the children to study together with their peers.
New Delhi, India - As part of its Adopt-a-Monument cleaning campaign, young volunteers with UPF-India assembled on May 8, 2010, at the Qutab Minaret in New Delhi to pick up trash.
