UN International Day of Families 2012

Day of Families Observed in Marshall Islands

Majuro, Marshall Islands - The conference hall of the Marshall Islands Resort Hotel in Majuro was the venue for an International Day of Families program on May 17. Distinguished participants included former president Hon. Kessai H. Note and his wife, Mrs. Mary Note, national and city government officials, NGO leaders, and pastors of churches.

Rev. Kenichi Ito as MC gave an explanation of the background of the UN International Day of Families. Then Mr. Terry Keju, UN representative in the Marshall Islands, read UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's message for the International Day of Families 2012. Ambassador for Peace and Assistant Clerk of the National Parliament, Mr. Elson Helkena, read UPF's Statement on Families, and Hon. Kessai H. Note, Senator and Former President, gave a congratulatory message.

After a coffee break, Hon. Alfred Capelle, former Marshall Islands Ambassador to the UN and Director of the Customary and Law Office, gave a presentation regarding the meaning of the family in the Marshall Islands. Then Rev. Kenichi Ito gave a PowerPoint presentation on The Family as a School of Love, followed by a time for questions and answers.
